Muddling is the technique used for all drinks in which fresh fruit has to be crushed.
The fruit is placed in the glass together with any sugar and carefully crushed with a muddler to create an even amalgam. Finally, fill the glass with ice and the other ingredients and stir gently before serving.

To avoid sudden splashing due to the amount of liquid in the glass, it is advisable to first crush only the fresh fruit with any sugar, then add the other ingredients and the ice.
